- W196918905 abstract "The survey approach is often used in studying drivers' route choice behavior. Surveys enable the researcher to analyze route choice behavior and the effects of traffic information directly from reported behavior and perceptions of the respondent. A sample that represents well the population in the study area could facilitate better understanding of actual drivers' behavior and decision processes. Three route choice surveys targeting a random sample of commuters in the Los Angeles area are presented. The first two surveys were 1 year apart, and the third survey was a follow-up mail questionnaire. The surveys involved two innovative techniques that achieve the data collection required for the analyses of route choice, traffic information acquisition, and commuters' potential use of advanced traveler information systems. The first technique is using computer-aided telephone interviews, and the second utilizes geographic information systems capabilities." @default.
