Xylene ferrocene was directly introduced into a DC arc chamber using a carrier gas. Experimental results showed that both multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) and singlewalled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) can be synthesized by this technique. The numbers of synthesized MWNTs and SWNTs varied depending on process conditions such as the flow rate of ferrocene, pressure, process current, and voltage. The yield of SWNTs was improved by increasing the flow rate of xylene ferrocene owing to the high density of the catalyst precursor used; however, it was reduced by decreasing the process current owing to the poor activation ability of the catalyst." @default.
