- W1969495494 abstract "Abstract N -nitroso- N -ethylurea (NEH) can induce a significant frequency of mutations at the dumpy (dp) locus in D. melanogaster when analyzed by means of a specific visible test. pH has a significant effect on the capacity of NEH to induce dumpy mutations. NEH induces the highest frequency of dumpy mutations in an acidic environment. A basic environment essentially removes the capacity of NEH to induce specific visible mutations. Mosaic dumpy mutations are induced in postmeiotic, meiotic and premeiotic gametes under the environmental conditions which favor the mutagenic action of NEH. Absorption spectral data establishes that pH has an effect on the stability of NEH. NEH is relatively stable at low pH values while ot rapidly decomposes at high pH values." @default.
