In this introduction, we present generalities about the sexual revolution (which represent our interpretation of readings of the popular press) and review the chronology of risk groups for AIDS identified by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). In later sections, we discuss and critique data concerning heterosexual spread of HIV infection and AIDS reported in the United States and in other parts of the world. Finally, we reiterate the Public Health Service's recommendations designed to reduce sexual transmission of HIV infection.
