- W19698837 abstract "Before the war in Iraq began, in many countries and especially in Europe, numerous protests were held against american plans, which brought up the importance of antiamericanism and its various aspects. However, in order to understand a complex situation, one must take in consideration the opposite point of view, and in this case, the way americans perceive the world and grounds of their power. Religion plays a very important role in their political and geopolitical ideas, and they believe that the power of their country over the rest of the world is completely justified as it was gradually established by God, which they call the “Manifest Destiny» of the United States of America. But it is also important to explain the reasons of their power on a geopolitical level: great natural resources, the opportunity to conquer a vast territory and the massive european contribution in providing workers, capital, engineers and scientists. Unlike Europe, the United States were spared the destruction caused by the two world wars. They also beneficiated from their position in the defense of the “free world» against communism, even though it did cost them their first major defeat in Vietnam as they witnessed the implosion of the other superpower. It remains important to better understand the reasons of the american intervention in Iraq: surely the oil situation is at stake, but one must also analyze the geopolitical factors as Iraq is without a doubt the country that can unite peacefully or forcelully the arab world, in similary to Prussia (in spite of its defeat in 1806) and the german situation. And the rather expeditions military victory of the United States over Iraq (even though problems are far from being over) is leading to real reflections on the geopolitical evolutions that may occur, not only in the Arab community but also in the European Union. And these two parts of the world, which are the most involved with the United States in the world wide expansion, are now deeply shaken and disoriented." @default.
