- W1970416296 abstract "Abstract During a 30-min state of heavy intravital sulfide loading of the zinc-rich synaptic systems of the hippocampus, notably the mossy fiber system, rats learned a completely novel and relatively complex route on a raised maze as efficiently in respect of both time and distance economy per successive run as did normal controls. This finding renders it practically certain that the fascia dentata is not at all essential, and improbable that the pyramidal and basket cell circuitry of hippocampus sector CA3 or CA1 is essential to consolidation of recent memory. These observations strengthen arguments, mustered elsewhere from an anatomical critique of the relevant published data, that it is the hippocampal gyrus and not the hippocampus that is essentially involved in the normal learning of meaningful complex memoranda by adult mammals." @default.
