Rates of oxidation of benzene to maleic anhydride, p-benzoquinone and carbon dioxide were measured at temperatures from 350 to 400°C, at benzene concentrations from 2.0 to 4.33 × 10–8 moles/1, and at oxygen concentrations from 1.6 to 15.0 × 10–3 moles/1. The rate data were correlated by the steady state adsorption model and, by comparison with previous published results, it was concluded that this model provides a valuable means of correlating and interpreting catalytic oxidation rate data. Earlier data for benzene oxidation on the same catalyst were critically evaluated and a possible source of error was suggested. On a étudié, dans un réacteur à écoulement différentiel, la cinétique de la réaction du benzène avec l'oxygène sur un catalyseur formé d'oxyde de vanadium et activé par du sulfate de potassium. On a mesuré les vitesses d'oxydation du benzène en anhydride maléique, para-benzoquinone et anhydride carbonique, à des températures comprises entre 350 et 400°C et pour des concentrations de benzène variant entre 2.0 et 4.33 × 10–3 molécules par litre et d'oxygène variant entre 1.6 à 15.0 × 10–3 molécules par litre. On a mis en corrélation les résultats trouvés pour les vitesses au moyen d'un modèle d'adsorption à regime permanent et, en les comparant avec ceux que certains auteurs ont déjà publiés, on a conclu que le dit modèle fournissait un instrument utile pour mettre en corrélation et interpréter les résultats de la vitesse d'oxydation obtenue par catalyse. On a fait une évaluation critique des résultats trouvés précédemment en rapport avec l'oxydation du benzène sur le měme catalyseur et mentionné une source possible d'erreur." @default.
