- W1971202273 abstract "An hypothesis has been presented suggesting that the interaction between cAMP and a steroid hormone may be involved in cellular regulatory mechanisms. The evidence in support of this hypothesis shows that: 1) the interaction between cAMP and estrogen in the growth control of hormone-dependent tumors is antagonistic and requires the respective binding proteins to be present in the cytoplasm; 2) the nuclear translocation of cAMP-binding protein, the regulatory subunit of protein kinase, type II, is inversely related to the nuclear translocation of estrogen receptors during growth and regression of hormone-dependent mammary tumors; 3) the stimulation and prevention of endogenous phosphorylation of nuclear proteins, RAP (regression-associated protein), by cAMP and estrogen in vivo and in vitro, suggest that the counteraction between cAMP and estrogen in growth control may be exerted by a specific action on nuclear protein phosphorylation. Continued investigation on transcriptional control mediated through cAMP and estrogen interaction should provide further insight into the biological regulatory mechanism of hormonal action." @default.
