The method allows to reveal hydrocarbon deposits situated on depths up to several kilometers and to determine their boundaries. The technique is based on imaging of the electric conductivity and induced polarization parameters of the geological formation. It is shown that polarized media generate wave processes whose nature is similar to displacement currents induced by the dielectric permittivity. However, unlike the displacement currents, these processes reveal themselves at much lower frequencies and, therefore, at greater depths. It is established that the parameters of the induced polarization in hydrocarbon‐bearing rocks possess sufficient contrast with respect to the surrounding rocks.
