- W1971567657 abstract "In Belgium soil disinfestation is a control measure which is used in almost the entire field of agriculture and horticulture. Some special problems, particular to Belgium are discussed. In the traditional growing areas, club root caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae may be the cause of severe damage. Trials with soil fumigants have been done on a field in which cauliflowers were grown continuously for at least 30 years. In previous in vitro tests favourable results have been obtained with both fungicidal fumigants, and with nematocidal fumigants on a DCP basis. In the last few years only Fusarium oxysporum f. lycopersici has been a severe parasite of the vascular system of tomatoes. Reference is made to some earlier investigations on systemic fungicides. Several methods to improve the result of disinfestation on F. oxysporum are discussed, e.g., the effect of soil moisture and the way in which fumigation is done in practice. In the culture of witloof (chicory heads) the double problem is set of soil sickness in both root growing and in the forcing beds. In root growing it is a complex problem. In the experiments more favourable results have been obtained with fungicidal fumigants (CP) than with nematocides (DCP). It has been stated that the production capacity may be altered by an, even very small, phytotoxical after-effect as by a too high N content." @default.
