Fragmentation schemes are often straightforward. Rearrangement reactions occur to a lesser degree than in positive ion MS. In contrast to positive CI, negative CI is feasible also in the low pressure range of 10 –2 torr, where positive ion formation by electron impact (EI) is not seriously affected by the presence of reagent gases. An interesting quasi-simultaneous dual-MS-system could therefore be established. The combination of conventional positive ion formation by hard EI with the softer low pressure negative CI approach yields complementary information." @default.
