The experimental configuration was arranged to selectively observe events corresponding to decays into the $^{12}mathrm{C}$+$^{12}mathrm{C}$ resonance channel. A study of the incident energy dependence of the $^{12}mathrm{C}(^{16}mathrm{O},ensuremath{alpha})$ reaction clearly indicates the importance of sequential processes in the $ensuremath{alpha}$-particle yield. In particular, the process where the incident $^{16}mathrm{O}$ picks up an $ensuremath{alpha}$ forming $^{20}mathrm{Ne}^{*}$ resonances and then decays back to $ensuremath{alpha}+^{16}mathrm{O}$ can reasonably explain most of observed structures in the inclusive $ensuremath{alpha}$ spectra. The sequential process caused by the inelastic excitation of $^{16}mathrm{O}$ to $^{16}mathrm{O}^{*}ensuremath{rightarrow}ensuremath{alpha}+^{12}mathrm{C}$ can also contribute to the broad peaks observed in the inclusive spectra, but only in the high excitation region." @default.
