- W1972065153 abstract "This paper documents a systematic and detailed study comparing the 207Pb/206Pb apparent ages obtained by single zircon Pb evaporation/ionization method, in rock samples previously dated by conventional U-Pb zircon dissolution procedures. The technique applied here uses a single rhenium center filament to evaporate, ionize and measure the Pb isotopic ratios, in a thermal ionization mass spectrometer, by direct evaporation/ionization of a single zircon grain. The single zircon Pb evaporation/ionization method was applied in igneous and metamorphic rocks of Archean to Neoproterozoic age. The 207Pb/206Pb obtained for the igneous rocks with little or no evidence of deformation are, within the error, similar to the published U-Pb ages and may be considered as good indicator of the crystallization age of these rocks. However, uncertainties on the 207Pb/206Pb ratios measured on zircons may constitute a limitation of the Pb evaporation/ionization method, particularly for the precise determination of the age of crystallization of Neoproterozoic rocks or younger. For granulite facies rocks, where a Pb loss discordancy has been imprinted upon the zircons, the 207Pb/206Pb ages obtained by Pb evaporation/ionization method must be considered as minimum ages. The results obtained here along with the relative simplicity of the analytical procedures used in the single zircon Pb evaporation/ionization method show great potential for the application of this technique in the reconnaissance evaluation of the ages of rocks units of Precambrian crust where a geochronological framework is not well established. Este trabalho reporta um estudo sistemático e detalhado, comparando as idades aparentes 207Pb/206Pb obtidas em monocristais de zircão pelo método de evaporação/ionização de Pb em amostras de rochas previamente datadas pelo método U-Pb em zircão. Na técnica aqui empregada, um cristal de zircão éaprisionado em um filamento central de rênio na forma de canoa. O filamento éaquecido para evaporar e, simultâneamente, ionizar os átomos de Pb do zircão, cujas razões isotópicas são medidas em um espectrômetro de massa de ionização termal. O método de evaporação/ionização de Pb em monocristal de zircão foi empregado para datar rochas ı́gneas e metamórficas de idades variando do Arqueano ao Neoproterozóico. As idades 207Pb/206Pb obtidas para as rochas ı́gneas com pouca ou nenhuma evidência de deformação são similares, dentro do erro analı́tico, às idades U-Pb publicadas e podem ser consideradas como uma boa indicação das idades de cristalização destas rochas. Entretanto, o elevado erro analı́tico nas razões 207Pb/206Pb dos zircões pode se constituir em limitação, àprecisa determinação da idade de cristalização, particularmente no caso de rochas do Neoproterozóico ou mais jovens. Em zircões de rochas da fácies granulito, onde a perda de Pb imprimiu uma discordância nos mesmos, as idades 207Pb/206Pb obtidas devem ser interpretadas como idades mı́nimas. Os resultados aqui obtidos, juntamente com a relativa simplicidade dos procedimentos analı́ticos empregados no método de evaporação/ionização de Pb em monocristais de zircão, revelam o grande potencial da aplicação desta técnica no reconhecimento das idades de rochas da crosta continental pré-cambriana onde o quadro geocronológico ainda não estábem estabelecido." @default.
