- W1972259265 abstract "We study intrinsic stacking fault energies as a function of the pressure in aluminum obtained from first principle calculations and two empirical n-body potentials. Conventionally this energy has been linked to the energy difference between fcc and hcp structure given by an approximate formula of Hirth and Lothe. We examine the validity of this approximation at high pressure and propose an extension, applicable for a wide range of pressures. First principle calculations of intrinsic stacking fault energies as a function of the pressure suggest that heavily deformed aluminum can partially transform to the hcp phase at about 17 GPa. This occurs if the density of dislocations it contains is large." @default.
