- W1973362334 abstract "Sera of patients with dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring were investigated for the presence of antibodies to wheat gliadin, using radioimmunoassay (RIA), immune precipitation, immunodiffusion, and passive hemagglutination. In a radioimmunoassay 14C-labeled gliadin was used as antigen. Five patients out of 21 showed radioactivity precipitated by second antibody above 250 dpm (from 296 to 770 dpm): the range of precipitable radioactivity in the remaining 16 patients was 106–248 dpm. Average precipitation of 14C-labeled gliadin in 20 healthy persons was 79.5 dpm (SD = 14.2). In a control group of 20 patients suffering from other skin diseases (psoriasis vulgaris, bullous pemphigoid, acne vulgaris) average precipitated radioactivity amounted to 162.2 dpm (SD = 46.1). In a control group of nine patients with gastrointestinal diseases (morbus Crohn, ulcerative colitis) average precipitated radioactivity was 160.2 dpm (SD = 69.6). In vitro formed gliadin-antigliadin complexes could be demonstrated by gel filtration in sera showing strong binding of 14C-labeled gliadin. Antibody class of antigliadin antibodies was IgG. IgA, and IgM. Passive hemagglutination was positive in three cases of dermatitis herpetiformis. Precipitating antibodies were not detected in precipitation studies, immunodiffusion, or immunoelectrophoresis." @default.
