- W1973453485 abstract "Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS) leading to demyelination, axonal damage, and progressive neurologic disability [1]. The activation of CD4+ autoreactive T cells is a crucial event in the initial steps, and also these cells may play an important role in the long-term evolution of the disease [2]. MS in Asians is characterized by a low prevalence rate and selective involvement of the optic nerve and spinal cord. Opticospinal MS (OSMS) is observed in 15–40% of Japanese MS patients, with the remainder having features that are similar to those of MS in Caucasians (conventional or classical MS; CMS) [3]. In a recent study done by Li et al. [4] in Japan, it has been shown that Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is a protective factor against conventional multiple sclerosis in Japanese MS population. Based on this finding, the authors hypothesize that H. pylori pharmaceutical products can be a potential treatment strategy in patients with conventional MS. The development of nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems (DDS) allows practitioners to use drugs to target specific areas of the body [5]. Thus, the authors believe that H. pylori nanoparticles with neuro-specific targets can make a significant treatment impact in conventional MS patients. This nano-target therapy also prevents possible deteriorating effect of this organism while saving its therapeutic effects. References" @default.
