- W1973454770 abstract "Hemerocallis and Musa clones grown under aseptic conditions provide valuable test systems wherein both morphological and biochemical prerequisites for expression of morphological competence from protoplasts can be investigated. While there is considerable opportunity to study protoplast isolation and regeneration per se, the greatest challenge will be to induce, controllably, useful change(s) by co-use of molecular biology and protoplast culture-related methodologies. But the very way in which daylilies and bananas/plantains grow as plants imposes at present certain limitations on achieving cultures which can express their presumed, innate totipotency. Nevertheless, progress has been made and will continue, provided realistic strategies are adopted. When this is fully achieved, the true genetic engineering and use of protoplasts for Hemerocallis and Musa improvement can be realized." @default.
