- W1974148056 abstract "Cholera morbus, once the favored name for common acute intestinal infections of man, itself indicates a close clinical and epidemiological relationship to Asiatic cholera. Knowledge of cholera has progressed greatly during the past decade: in a strikingly lesser case‐fatality, in pathophysiology, and through demonstration of an enterotoxin. The facts apply increasingly to other diarrheal disease; enterotoxins have been identified for several; malabsorption of nutrients has increased emphasis; environmental determinants of disease frequency and distribution are often the same. A major benefit from current cholera research rests in improved prevention and control of these other acute diarrheas that continue as the leading cause of death in so many developing countries." @default.
