- W1976493485 abstract "It is suggested that after cell death particulate subcellular components are taken up by phagocytic cells and induce the formation of IgM anti-tissue antibodies; whilst soluble cytoplasmic material, by avoiding phagocytosis, induces immunological tolerance by directly influencing lymphoid cells. A possible role of IgM antibody is described which combines with subcellular particulate antigens and in conjunction with complement releases a chemotactic agent to attract polymorphs. The stimulatory effect of bacterial and possibly viral agents on lymphoid cells is discussed in relation to the effect of corynebacteria on the ability of soluble antigens to induce antibody formation rather than tolerance. A mechanism of this type is suggested as a possible factor leading to autoantibody formation against soluble tissue antigens." @default.
