- W1976564539 abstract "669 The Tarskij equation (TAR) is a new VO2max development with potential value as an alternative to conventional equations for predicting VO2max. Unlike traditional prediction formulas, TAR [VO2max (ml*kg−1*min−1)=(1290*power/HRmax-60)*(e−0.00884*Age)/Wt (kg)))] utilizes estimations of power output [power (m*kg/min)=V(km/hr)*1000m/60 min*(sine θ)*Wt (kg)] to predict VO2max while running on a treadmill. The purpose of this study was to validate TAR against measured VO2max (M) using the Bruce protocol with conventional gas analysis. An ancillary objective was to evaluate three other equations: ACSM Running, Bruce Active, and Foster et al. Generalized Cubic. Subjects included 37 active females between the ages of 22-40. Predicted VO2max from all four equations were compared to M using standard error of estimate (SEE) and correlation (r). Mean differences were compared using a one-way ANOVA with repeated measures. Significant differences were found between M and TAR. Data from half of the subjects (n=18) (randomly selected) were used in a regression analysis with M. The derived constant (−0.746) and intercept (0.936) were applied to data from the remaining subjects (n=19). A paired t-test between M and adjusted TAR for these subjects was not significant. (Table)TableIt was concluded that the adjusted TAR formula could serve as a valid means of estimating VO2max in an active female population." @default.
