- W1976655293 abstract "All large Latin American cities have registered, during the three last decades, deep transformation processes that have affected its economic base, its social structures, and its spactial and functional organization. The configuration of land uses, that synthesizes very well the interaction between the urban agents, has been one of the dimensions touched by these movements of change. The hypothesis upheld in the following article puts forward the view that the mono-centric traditional model, characterized by a descending centre-peripheral land use intensity gradient, is evolving towards a mono-multicentral one. We can conclude from an examination of those results that the traditional structure of land use has been affected by fragmentation processes which give rise to a more complex model. The appearance of peripheral nuclei characterized by high intensity use of land aimed at both the commercial and service sectors, in addition to the considerable rise in that sector adjacent to the traditional old quarter, confirms that the present structural configuration of land use is determined not only by the distance to the city centre, but also by other factors such as accessibility and socio-economic status." @default.
