All light 4f ions reflect magnetic instabilities and/or valence changes under extreme changes of the host matrix. The implantation of 3d and 4d ions into alkali hosts yields strong tendencies toward s- and d-electron localization as reflected in e.g. the observation of a local 4d moment in the system Mo in Cs.
