- W1977642947 abstract "The development of functional and intelligent fluid is one of the innovative and important research subjects in the area of heat transfer and fluid engineering. The review and research result were described for the development of functional and intelligent fluid using multiphase flow. The research activities on the functional and intelligent multiphase flow mainly in Japan were reviewed. The result of the research and development of the inverse natural convective fluid and its thermo-hydrodynamic characteristic were reported. The developed functional fluid is solid–liquid two-phase fluid, which consists of water and the functional particles composed of shape memory alloy spring coupled with rubber bellows. This particle has a functional characteristic of decreasing its volume in high temperature environment, and increasing its volume in low temperature surroundings. It is confirmed that inverse natural convection occurred when these particles are submerged in the water with thermally stratified temperature field. The characteristic of mixing of temperature, motion of particle and heat transfer rate were measured in the vessel with thermally stratified water. Numerical simulations of velocity and temperature fields around the particle and motion of the particle were carried out and heat transfer rate were estimated. The results of the prediction and experiment of heat transfer rate show reasonable agreement." @default.
