The high-temperature incommensurate phase is the only one known where the amplitude of the modulation wave vanishes on lowering the temperature and the high-symmetry phase re-enters. Microscopic considerations indicate that incommensurability and re-entrant behaviour are due to the thermally activated disorder of the propylammonium chains. A previous model free energy is discussed and calculations of the thermal expansion, heat capacity and elastic modulus are compared with experiments. The model describes well the main features of the phase sequence. However, it does not account for the elastic instability connected with the re-entrant phase transition." @default.
