The rates of water efflux per animal were directly related on a logarithmic basis to surface area in efts and to both surface area and weight in newts. 3. Water effluxes appear to occur predominantly across the integument. 4. All animals experienced a slight theoretical net diffusional water uptake proportional to the measured water efflux, but came very close to maintaining water balance. 5.
