- W1978391430 abstract "This analysis of various poems written in the first half of the 15th century by humanists related to the School of Guarino Veronese in Ferrara, aims to demonstrate how the development of Latin pastoral poetry was connected to the rediscovery of Theocritus’ Idylls. Starting with the comparative study of Virgil and Theocritus and aided by the first literary translations of the Idylls, the scholars of the Quattrocento established a profoundly reworked form of the pastoral genre, one which moved away not only from Virgilian models (for example by introducing the elegiac topic), but also from the medieval allegorical reading of bucolics. This article will focus in particular on investigating the fortunes of Theocr. IV in the Latin version of Martino Filetico, in the third pastoral of Battista Guarini and in the poems of Gaspare Tribraco and Tito Strozzi." @default.
