- W1978395942 abstract "Quantitative changes in four lysosomal enzymes (acid phosphatase, aryl sulphatase, β-glucuronidase and cathepsin D) were studied in the rat mammary gland during enforced involution. The specific activities of all enzymes showed a gradual increase from the first to the seventh day after cessation of weaning, while the total activities of the enzymes (calculated on “per gland” basis) were increased on days 1, 2, and 3. The rise in total activity was prevented in part by the administration of cycloheximide. The findings are compatible with neosynthesis of lysosomal enzymes during the early phase of mammary involution. This apparent early neosynthesis appears to take place in the alveolar epithelial cells and probably also the macrophage-like cells and is believed to be triggered by intracellular autophagic events in combination with heterophagy. It is postulated that the alterations in lysosomes and lysosomal enzymes are secondary to as yet incompletely known influences on the epithelial cells." @default.
