- W1978396667 abstract "Abstract The diffusion cross section of the atomic neon ion in neon is deduced over a wide range of temperatures from measurements of ion mobility. The cross section decreases from 9-7 × I0-15 to 7-2 × 10-16cm2with increasing gas temperature is the range 195-690°K. Theoretical values of resouant-charge-transfer and polarization cross sections in neon are calculated and used to obtain the theoretical values of the diffusion cross section at various temperatures. Good agreement between the experimental and the theoretical values of the diffusion cross section of Ne+ in neon is found at 195°K and 294°k The resonant-charge-transfer cross section is deduced from the atomic ion mobility measurements. The values obtained are fitted to an empirical relation of the form Qi = (18-75 -2-56 log ϵ)x 10-1cm2 in the range (4-9- 9-2) × 104cm/sec The- diffusion cross section of the molecular neon ion in neon is deduced. The value decreases from 5-6× 10-16 to 3-4 × ID-15 cm2with increasing temperature in the range 195-523°k." @default.
