- W1978702023 abstract "Abstract Measurements were made of the light attenuation and mass concentration of paniculate emissions from a coal-fired power plant on three different occasions over a 5-year period. Linear correlation coefficients of 0.99, 0.96, and 0.96 were observed for the three individual sets of measurements, and a linear correlation coefficient of 0.93 was observed for all measurements. Light attenuation-mass measurements showed similar results when the plant was operating at full and half loads. Particle size measurements were made on four different occasions during the study with similar results. A mass mean particle size of 2 ± 1 μm was measured when the particulate control equipment was operated at maximum efficiency. When the control equipment was operated at reduced efficiencies to increase emissions, a mass mean particle size of 3.5 ± 1.5 μm was measured. The work indicates that an empirically calibrated light transmissometer has the potential for monitoring the mass concentration of particulate emissions from coal-fired power plants, although the stability of such correlations and the calibration frequencies necessary to maintain specific accuracies need to be better defined." @default.
