- W1978787451 abstract "Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to study the topographical features of untreated Gigantocotyle explanatum. The topographical effects of mebendazole, fenbendazole, metrifonate and oxyclozanide on whole worms maintained in vitro were compared by SEM. All the drugs used in the present study damage the body surface, but the nature and degree of damage varied in each case. Abrasion of surface papillae, formation of lesions and peeling of the tegumental syncytium were common effects of all four anthelmintics. Some drugs caused smoothing of the tegumental surface whereas others produced a wrinkled appearance. Oxyclozanide was the most effective and mebendazole the least because the degree of surface damage produced by the drugs was in the order: oxyclozanide > metrifonate > fenbendazole > mebendazole. The surface papillae apparently represent distinct target sites for the action of certain anthelmintics." @default.
