- W1978806995 abstract "Abstract The effects of high ionic strength on carbamylphosphate synthesis, ATP formation from carbamylphosphate and ADP, the liberation of P 1 from ATP and hydroxylamine, and acetylphosphate and formylphosphate synthesis by carbamylphosphate synthetase are presented. High concentrations of salt markedly inhibit all of the reactions to approximately the same extent. Under conditions of high ionic strength and varying concentrations of cofactor ( N -acylglutamic acid derivatives), Liuweaver-Burk plots were obtained which are characteristic of competitive inhibition. The role of ionic strength during cofactor induced heat and cold inactivation of the enzyme provides some indication of the complexity of these inactivation phenomena. These observations are presented as further evidence that a single enzyme catalyzes all of these reactions and that there apparently is a close relationship between the effects of high ionic strength and the rule of glutamic acid derivatives as cofactors." @default.
