A new method of inverting the moments is applied which leads to analytic results for the parton distributions near $x=1$ and $x=0$. The nucleon is considered as a bound state of three quarks subsequently renormalized by gluon bremsstrahlung and quark-antiquark pair production. An unrenormalized valence quark distribution peaked at $x=frac{1}{3}$, with a width related to the nucleon radius, leads to good agreement with deep-inelastic data.
