- W1979067863 abstract "Abstract Retention of applied P and its influence on available P and soluble Al of soils derived from volcanic ash of Guatemala was investigated. In vitro equilibration experiments were conducted with 3, 6 and 9 me P/100 g soil for 1 and 7 days at field capacity (20% H2O) and ambient temperature (68°F). Nearly 80% or more of applied P was retained against 0.075 N acid extraction. P retention was usually greater at the end of 7 days with a corresponding reduction in available P. P retention was less and available P was more in non‐volcanic soils in comparative studies. The P retention brought about a change in Al and silica equilibrium in soils. A decrease in soluble Al and a corresponding increase in soluble silica was noted. There was a significant correlation between the amount P retained and extractable (IN NH4 OAc, pH 4.8) Al of soils. A large Retention of applied p by volcanic ash soils ‐ influence on available p and soluble alAll authorsS. Surya Prasad & Harry L. It appears that the P fertilization needs of these soils could be predicted from the easily dissociable or extractable Al." @default.
