- W1979246687 abstract "Thionamide preparations are highly effective in normalizing thyroid function in Graves' disease. They are usually used as primary therapy for 12 to 24 months in the hope that they will induce disease remission. If hyperthyroidism recurs after stopping thionamide, a more definitive mode of therapy is usually used such as surgery or radioactive iodine. However some patients are persistently treated with thionamide either because other therapeutic modalities are contraindicated or because of patient or physician preference, which could increase the risk of a thyroid storm. We present the case of a patient who presented a thyroid storm during treatment with methimazole." @default.
