- W1979681540 abstract "Abstract Applications of the pulsed-ion-beam technique for the measurement of decay times of excited nuclear states or the measurement of time of flight of particle require a quite accurate knowledge of the incidence time of the charge centre of the ion pulse on the target (time-zero indicator). To reach accuracies better than about 1 ns with time-zero indicators, the usual application of time-pick-off systems using the influence or induction method is inadequate in most cases because of the small total charge content of the ion pulse or pulse-to-pulse charge fluctuations. The present work deals with a method generating time-zero-signals free from these problems and which can be used with external pulse systems. In particular, a method is reported to obtain time-zero signals from the sinusoidal 30 MHz deflection voltage of an external pulse system which runs synchronously with the 1 MHz pulse sequence of an internally pulsed accelerator." @default.
