- W1979745023 abstract "The Ensign-Bickford Company (EBCo) continues to develop and refine a broad-ranging and detailed analytical capability allowing accurate modeling and prediction of explosive events. Confidence in the analytical results grows with experience and corroboration from test techniques such as flash radiography. Development of and reliance on this capability represents a fundamental change from the traditional ordnance development process, one which relied heavily on expensive testing to validate designs, often resulting in a lack of understanding of the details of the explosive event. EBCo's modeling capability now includes the simulation of explosive initiation and ramp up to full detonation, or reactive explosive modeling. EBCo has used hydrocode modeling with reactive explosive material models to design explosive interfaces and understand detonation phenomena. These models have been correlated with flash radiography to validate the model results and provide confidence in the modeling technique going forward. An example of the use of this analysis tool is the development of the Anti-Personnel Obstacle Breaching System (APOBS). Reactive hydrodynamic models of the detonating cord to grenade interface were created and corroborated using flash radiography." @default.
