- W1980306594 abstract "Abstract This study investigated the relationships between orientation to institutional authority, the Eysenckian personality dimensions (neuroticism, extraversion and psychoticism), as well as belief in various human values. Respondents were 185 Australian adolescents. Pearson correlations revealed pro-authority attitudes and behaviour to be significantly related to those values previously labelled as ‘conservative’ and to the personality dimension psychoticism. Multiple regression analyses, however, showed values to be relatively unimportant in predicting pro-authority attitudes. It was observed that the behavioural and attitudinal facets of orientation to authority were more important than personality factors such as psychoticism in explaining adolescents' views of institutional authority. The results are discussed with reference to previous research into the nature of orientation to authority as well as Eysenck's theory of the psychological basis of social behaviour." @default.
