- W1980365577 abstract "A system that can be used to measure variation of fabric anisotropy of soils during triaxial experiments is presented. The anisotropy is measured in terms of electrical conductivities measured in axial and radial directions. The method is non-destructive and can be used to monitor variation of anisotropy continuously, just as other mechanical measurements such as strains are measured. The required electrical conductivities are computed from measurements made using a set of four electrodes, all of which are embedded within loading platens. A special theory is employed for this purpose. The calculations also require a calibration that accounts for the variation of cross-sectional area of the specimens with loading and, for a given loading, the variation along the specimen axis. The latter is caused by friction between soil and platens. The system is used here to measure variation of anisotropy of a kaolinite during drained and undrained triaxial compression and extension tests. To verify the validity of results obtained, fabric anisotropy is determined at a few stages of loading by an independent technique, which is based on analysis of electron micrograph images. The patterns of variation of anisotropy determined by the two methods agree well. Cet exposé présente une méthode qui pent servir à mesurer Ľanisotropie texturale des sols dans les essais de compression triaxiale. Ľanisotropie estétablie à partir des conductiviés électriques mesurées dans les directions axiale et radiale. Cette méthode non destructive permet de suivre continuellement ľanisotropie, de la même façon qu'on mesure d'autres processus mécaniques comme les déformations. Les conductiviés électriques nécessaires sont calculées à partir de mesures prises par un ensemble de quatre électrodes encastrées dans les plateaux de chargement. Une théorie pardculière est employée à cette fin. Les calculs exigent également un étalonnage qui tient compte de la variation de la coupe transversale des éprouvettes en fonction de la charge, ainsi que de la variation le long de Paxe d'une éprouvette pour une charge donnée. Cette derniére variation est due au frottement entre le sol et les plateaux. Cette méthode est utilisée ici pour mesurer Panisotropie d'une kaolinite dans des essais de compression et d'extension triaxiales avec et sans drainage. Alin de vérifier la validité des résultats obtenus, on utilise une technique indépendante basée sur ľanalyse d'images de micrographic électronique pour quantifier ľanisotropie à quelques étapes du chargement.
