There have been a lot of studies investigating the practical use such as thermal exchange function and humidity control ability. 3,4 Furthermore, application of allophane to soli da cid catalysts has been explored. The hydroxy groups on the surface of aluminum silicate layer is more densely distributed than those of normal silica and mesoporous silica. 5 Hence, various functional groups such as sulfone can be densely introduced on the surface by chemical treatment so that the modified allophanes behave as soli da cid catalysts.
