The silica is dissolved in a small excess of hydrofluoric acid and a sample of this solution introduced into a Massmann-type graphite furnace. The silicon tetrafluoride produced in the solution stage is volatilized during a pre-atomization heating period. The results obtained for the determination of iron and copper by direct and standard additions procedures agree well with those obtained by colorimetric analysis. The total analysis time for iron and copper is about 30 min." @default.
