- W1980800155 abstract "Abstract Electrochemical measurements (voltamperometric analysis and anodic desorption) and X-ray structural studies are conducted in order to analyse the dependence of the amount of absorbed hydrogen in 1- μ m-thick coatings on the crystallographic orientation of pure Pd deposits. The results show that the density of the palladium surface has a large influence on the H occlusion. Three main surface orientations (111) (100) and (110) have been studied. The dense triangular surface Pd(111) induces the occlusion of less than four hydrogen atoms per 100 Pd (4%) in the coating while this ratio reaches about 50% for the rectangular one Pd(110). We conclude that the corrosion resistance is much better when Pd deposits do not display the (110) face. Semi empirical potential calculations are then performed in order to modelize the migration of H atoms on the surface and into the Pd substrate. The model can interpret the present experimental features and it gives adsorption and absorption energies in fair agreement with the values obtained in earliest spectroscopic and diffraction data." @default.
