Emphasis is placed on the inhomogeneity of the capillary network in mesentery and the difficulty in establishing average Kf values for tissues. On the basis of the Starling relationship for transcapillary movement of water, the curves representing filtration or absorption in occluded capillaries should depict an exponential relationship. Many capillaries exhibit a straight-line relationship suggesting the loss of whole plasma during filtration. The use of osmotic transients to study changes in Kf for periods up to several hours is described. There is a need to compare the permeability properties of vessels with different Kf values with the ultrastructural makeup of these vessels." @default.
