- W1981473321 abstract "Ceftriaxone is a parenteral third generation cephalosporin with high antimicrobial activity with a long halflife, used in different kinds of bacterial infection especially in the pediatric age-group. Reversible sludge and/or stones have been reported as a complication in some cases treated with Ceftriaxone [1,4,5,7,10,11,13, 15,171. Four cases are reported here which whilst on treatment with Ceftriaxone in our hospital, developed biliary lithiasis which resolved by itself, as demonstrated on repeat follow-up abdominal ultrasound. This paper highlights this drug-induced complication (which has ultrasonic similarities to gallbladder calculi), the factors which induce it, as well as emphasizing the self-limiting course of the complication which makes cholecystectomy unwarranted in such patients." @default.
