- W1981738016 abstract "Abstract Binocular and monocular acquisition rates for intensity and pattern discrimination reversal learning were compared in normal, split-brain, and chiasm-sectioned animals. Learning was little affected when inputs were restricted to one eye in normal subjects, whereas such restriction substantially prolonged learning in split-brain subjects. Monocular presentation to chiasm-sectioned, callosally intact animals yielded the slowest learning rates of all. Use of tasks making minimum visual demands and direct tests of the effects of sensory restriction reled out interpretation of unilateral losses solely in terms of visual input reduction. The cortical mass-action effect obtained in this and earlier studies appears to depend on direct relaying of task inputs to the two hemispheres: the second hemisphere cannot be recruited transcallosally when inputs for new learning are unilateral, although the effects of previous learning appear to be communicated readily via the corpus callosum." @default.
