- W1981830222 abstract "The distribution and metabolism of two (1-14C-labelled chlorinated paraffins (CP) and the corresponding (1-14C)-labelled fatty acids were studied in Japanese quail: I, C16H30·7Cl3·3 (34·1% chlorination); II, C12H20·1Cl5·9 (55·9% chlorination); III, palmitic acid, and IV, lauric acid. Whole body autoradiography showed that, shortly after gavage of I and II, radioactivity was highest in tissues with high metabolic activity and high cell turnover rate, and in bile and urine. Later radioactivity became most pronounced in follicle yolk, uropygial gland and fat. Generally, the distribution patterns of III and IV were similar to those of I and II, but the high labelling of bile and urine was lacking. Radioactivity in fatty tissues declined slower than in other tissues with time. Radioactivity was also present in albumen and eggshells. The highest amount of radioactivity was present in fatty tissues. About 40% of the radioactivity of I and III was exhaled as 14CO2 within 8 h; the corresponding values for II and IV were about 20% and 70%, respectively. It is concluded that the CP preparations are partly degraded to carbon fragments which are utilised in intermediary metabolic processes. The rate of metabolism of the CP-preparations is influenced by the chain length and/or the degree of cholorination." @default.
