- W198216462 abstract "Ozone therapy is widely used mainly due to its great oxidative and antimicrobial potential, providing an effective action on various organic compounds. For the practice of ozone therapy to be effective, one must know the behavior of ozone diffusion in the biological tissue in order to identify its location in the tissue and then determine its action. An alternative to this process is to use fluorescent biomarkers that are degraded in the presence of ozone, indicating indirectly that the tissue was subjected to this action. This paper proposes the use of tryptophan as a biomarker of the ozone presence in biological tissues. Its strong interaction with triatomic molecular oxygen with consequent fluorescent loss can make this substance highly interesting for this purpose. The results show that ozone-tryptophan interaction induces a decrease of the tryptophan fluorescence due to the interaction time between them. Another work in this direction should be seeking to demonstrate this effect for different concentrations of ozone." @default.
