Findings suggest that FAD means from the contemporary community sample indicate satisfaction with family functioning, while FAD scores from the help-seeking sample indicate dissatisfaction with family functioning. In addition, the General Functioning scale of the FAD continues to correlate highly with all other FAD scales, except Behavior Control. The cut-off scores for the FAD indicating satisfaction or dissatisfaction by family members with their family functioning continue to be relevant and the FAD continues to be a useful tool to assess family functioning in both clinical and research contexts. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo describir los puntajes de funcionamiento familiar de una muestra comunitaria contemporánea utilizando el “Sistema de Evaluación Familiar” (Family Assessment Device, FAD), y compararlos con los de una muestra de búsqueda de ayuda actual. La muestra comunitaria consistió en 151 familias que completaron el FAD. La muestra de búsqueda de ayuda consistió en 46 familias que completaron el FAD en su primera consulta de terapia familiar como parte de su atención habitual en una clínica ambulatoria de terapia familiar de un hospital urbano. Los resultados sugieren que los puntajes del FAD de la muestra comunitaria contemporánea indican satisfacción con el funcionamiento familiar, mientras que los puntajes del FAD de la muestra de búsqueda de ayuda indican insatisfacción con el funcionamiento familiar.
