- W1982488641 abstract "A method, based on the enzymic conversion of testosterone to estradiol-17β, has been elaborated for the estimation of testosterone in human urine. The range of excretion of testosterone in healthy human males in the 20–40 year age group was 5.0–79.0 μg/24 hrs. and in normal women of the reproductive age it was <1–3.8 μg/24 hrs. Serial estimation, carried out during one menstrual cycle showed a cyclic fluctuation of testosterone excretion, reaching its highest level during the mid-period. In one untreated female patient with congenital adrenal hyperplasia the concentration of testosterone was 50 μg/24 hrs., but in others who were receiving, or who had received, steroid treatment in the past, the excretion of testosterone was lower than usually encountered in normal men, but higher than that in normal women. A few patients with idiopathic hirsutism excreted testosterone at a level corresponding to upper normal limits of excretion of women, or even a slightly higher level. The method is suitable for routine use, and one worker may easily perform six estimations in twelve days." @default.
