- W1984635793 abstract "Optical effects in stable Langmuir-Blodgett preparations have been studied. These structures consist primarily of built-up layers of N-(4-nitrobenzo)-2-oxa-1,3- diazole phosphatidylethanolamine: the molecular arrangements are then placed between aluminum electrodes. The films generate a dark internal potential having an upper limit of 1.37 V; under monochromatic illumination a photo-e.m.f. of a few volts above the dark potential is observed. An excellent computer fit is obtained for the typical logarithmic dependence of photovoltage on illumination intensity. Samples with a resistance as low as 6 Ω have been prepared with rhodamine B added to the basic chromophore structure. A physical model involving the potential profile across the structure under steady state illumination is presented. The charge separation capability appears to limit sample power output; however, the results indicate that engineering on the molecular level is feasible and can be utilized to some extent to enhance performance characteristics that are desirable for potential applications." @default.
