- W1985010734 abstract "In this paper the application of thermodynamic principles to the mechanics of viscoelastic flow is outlined. Existing theories of heat transfer (for purely viscous fluids) are shown to be equally valid for viscoelastic materials in all steady laminar shearing flow fields provided the temperature-dependency of physical properties may be either neglected or accounted for separately. In more general flow fields (including boundary layer problems) the additional effects of viscoelastic properties are shown and dimensionless ratios are developed to show under what conditions they are of importance. It is seen that the viscoelastic properties may lead to either increased or decreased heat transfer rates, depending upon the kinematic characteristics of the flow field under consideration and the direction of heat transfer. Implications of the second law of thermodynamics are discussed and the possibility of negative dissipation functions indicated. L'auteur applique dans cet article les principes thermodynamiques, à la mécanique des écoulements viscoélastiques. Il démontre que les théories existantes de transport de chaleur (pour des liquides purement visqueux) sont également appliquables aux matériaux viscoélastiques dans tout écoulement en film laminaire, en admettant que les propriétés physiques des fluides sont pratiquement indépendantes de la température ou mesurables séparément. Plus généralement, pour des domaines d'écoulement comprenant les problèmes de couche limite, il analyse les conséquences des propriétés viscoélastiques, et, il présente des rapports sans dimension pour traduire quantitativement leur importance. Il constate aussi que les propriétés viscoélastiques peuvent conduire soit à un accroissement soit à une décroissance des vitesses de transfert de chaleur, dépendamment des caractéristiques cinématiques de l'écoulement et de la direction du transfert de chaleur. Il discute les conséquences de la seconde loi de la thermodynamique, et il indique la possibilité de fonctions de “dissipation” négatives. Es wird die Anwendung thermodynamischer Gesetzmässigkeiten auf die Mechanik des viscoelastischen Fliessens dargelegt und gezeigt, dass die bekannten Theorien über den Wärmeaustausch in viskosen Flüssigkeiten auf viscoelastische Materialien anwendbar sind, vorausgesetzt dass die Temperaturabhängigkeit der physikalischen Eigenschaften vernachlässigt oder separat berücksichtigt werden kann. Für das allgemeine Fliessverhalten (inklusive Grenzschichtprobleme) werden die besonderen zusätzlichen Effekte der viscoelastischen Eigenschaften erläutert. Je nach der kinematischen Charakteristik des Strömungsfeldes und der Richtung des Wärmetransportes können grössere oder kleinere Wärmeaustauschgeschwindigkeiten auftreten." @default.
